New Rules Since January 2025

Since January 2025, the State Pension uses a Total Contributions Approach (TCA) — your pension rate is proportional to your total PRSI contributions (max 2,080 = full pension). Previously, a yearly average was used.

In 2026, the blended rate is 80% Yearly Average + 20% TCA. By 2034, only TCA will apply. You'll receive whichever method gives you the higher amount.

The maximum rate at age 66 in 2026 is €289.30/week (€15,044/year). Deferring adds approximately €15/week per year of deferral.
