What is HAP?
The Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) is a social housing support for people who qualify for social housing but cannot get a council house. The council pays your rent directly to your landlord, and you pay a differential rent contribution based on your income.
Key points: you find your own accommodation (within limits), your landlord must agree to HAP, and you remain on the social housing waiting list. You can also work full-time while on HAP.
